---- — Helen I. Coberly, 87, of Mt. Vernon, died 9:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Wednesday, April 7, 1926, in Sangamon County, the daughter of Maurice Sherwood and Ellen Mae (Ball) Brown. She married Francis N. “Frank” Coberly on Oct. 11, 1941, in St. Louis. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1990.
Helen worked as a certified nursing assistant for Good Samaritan Regional Health Center, serving 17 years in the O.B. department and five years on the medical floor. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon.
She is survived by four daughters, Sue Keener and husband Frank of Mt. Vernon, Irene Ferguson and husband Gary of Mt. Vernon, Alesia York and husband Richard of Waynesville, Mo. and Cindy Dycus and husband Jimmie of Mt. Vernon; sister-in-law, Betty Burwell of Mt. Vernon; nine grandchildren, Sheila Connor and Greg of Bonnie, Robert Ferguson and fiancee Sara Ursin of Minneapolis, Doug Ferguson of Chicago, Jody Sellers and fiancee Amber Bartling of Carbondale, Gina Sellers and friend Rickey Spurgeon of Steelville, Mo., Jeremy Dycus and wife Jessica of Mt. Vernon, Jaelynn Wallace and husband Craig of Dahlgren, Brandon York of Waynesville, Mo. and Amanda Darnell and husband Steven of Waynesville, Mo.; eight great-grandchildren, Leah Schlag and husband Adam of Whittington, Lanie Connor of Bonnie, Clay Keener of Dahlgren, Michael Bulhoes of Steelville, Mo., Maizy Wallace of Dahlgren, Brayden Stapleton of Steelville, Mo., Aiden York of St. Roberts, Mo. and Chase Darnell of Waynesville, Mo.; two nieces, Janet Robinson and husband Denny of Bloomington and Carol Boring and husband Larry of Hudson; two great-nieces, Laura McMullen of Bloomington and Roselyn King of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother, LeRoy M. Brown.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Mr. Randy Sells officiating. Interment will be at West Salem Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
