Rutha Mae Johnson, age 77, of Milwaukee and a former resident of Mt. Vernon, passed away 12:40 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at her daughter’s home in Milwaukee.
Rutha was born April 3, 1936, in Quitman, Miss., the daughter of Frank and Matilda (Mumforde) Anderson. She first was married to Willie Jones and later married Robert Johnson and he preceded her in death.
Rutha is survived by her first husband, Willie Jones of Springfield; two daughters, Jennifer Jones of Milwaukee and Joyce Johnson and husband Christopher Coleman of Milwaukee; three sons, Willie Jones Jr. of Milwaukee, Curtis Johnson of Milwaukee and Robert Johnson and wife Ruby of Milwaukee; two sisters, Hattie Sanders of Mt. Vernon and Anna Mae Watson of Clarksdale, Miss.; two brothers, Jerry Anderson of Little Rock Ark. and Frank Anderson of Florida; and also a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Johnny B. Jones; daughter, Delorise Jones; grandson, Melvin Doggan Jr.; two great-grandsons, Andrea Jones Jr. and Anthony Terrell Jones Jr.; and also six siblings.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. She worked as a home health caregiver for many years until her retirement.
Funeral services for Rutha Mae Johnson will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church (1015 Conger Avenue) in Mt. Vernon. Interment will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Saturday.
