---- — Brenda Jean Spillman, age 58, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Saturday morning Jan. 18, 2014, at the Dyersburg Regional Medical Center in Dyersburg, Tenn.
Brenda was born March 23, 1955, in Caruthersville, Mo., the daughter of Robert and Christine (Watson) Dinwiddie. She first Married Alexander Dawson and he preceded her in death. She later married Richard Spillman and he also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Spillman was a member of the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. She had worked as a secretary for several years and also worked in nursing.
Brenda is survived by her special friend, Eric Young of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, Alexander Dinwiddie of Detroit, Alexandria Dinwiddie of Detroit, Marquist Dinwiddie of Detroit, Dionte Dinwiddie of Detroit, Marcellius Dinwiddie of Daphne, Ala. and Therina Hall of Mt. Vernon; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Robert Dinwiddie of Mt. Vernon and Steve Dinwiddie of Mt. Vernon; and four sisters, Peggy Joyce Bell and husband Phydentry of Caruthersville, Mo., Carolyn Lee Taylor and husband Robert of Jackson, Mich., Mary Ann Williams and husband James of Mt. Vernon and Patricia Smith and husband Johnny of Mt. Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Christine Dinwiddie; husband, Alexander Dawson; second husband, Richard Spillman; son, Alexander LaVdies Dinwiddie Dawson; and a sister, Barbara Jean Chandler.
Funeral services for Brenda Jean Spillman will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, 1309 South 9th Street, Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Tim Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
