James R. Hill, 86, of Morton, passed away at 5:04 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Morton.
He was born Oct. 30, 1927, in Benton, to Clyde R. and Erma Geraldine (Schaefer) Hill. He married Diana Johnson on June 30, 1956, in Pekin. She preceded him in death on June 15, 2008. He later married Ramona Sargent on July 24, 2010, in Morton.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona Hill of Morton; three daughters, Kathy (Rick) Knapp of Broken Arrow, Okla., Patti (Mike) Heidbreder of Pekin and Lori (Rob) Mietz of Lockport, N.Y.; three stepchildren; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Fae Moss of Groveland and Geraldine Davis of Centralia; and one brother, Paul Dean Hill of Morton. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
James worked at Caterpillar Inc. in engineering for 30 years, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Morton and the Caterpillar Retirees Club in East Peoria, where he served as past president.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at the First Baptist Church of Morton with First Baptist Church ministers officiating. Military rites were conducted following services Friday, Jan. 25, at the church. Burial was at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
Visitation was held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at the church.
