Brenda York Lueke, 67, of Piopolis, passed away 1:55 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at her home.
She was born Dec. 1, 1946, in Eldorado, the daughter of Coleen York and Beulah (Barnett) York. She married Charlie Lueke on Aug. 12, 1966.
She was a retired teacher. Brenda held a bachelor of science and masters of science in elementary education from Southern Illinois University and doctoral studies in education from University of Illinois. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis. Her lifetime commitment was to improve the quality of education, especially those with special needs. The birth of her children and grandchildren were the highlights of her life.
She is survived by husband, Charlie Lueke of Piopolis; son, Jeff Lueke and wife Michele of McLeansboro; daughter, Julie Dodd and husband Rob of McLeansboro; grandchildren, Emily Lueke, 19, Eli Lueke, 17, Sawyer Lueke, 16, Samuel Lueke, 13, Caroline Lueke, 9, Cecelia Lueke, 3, Ian Dodd, 10 and Colin Dodd, 8; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gary York and Charles Riley; and sisters, Jo Floyd and Bonnie Morris.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis with Monsignor Joseph Lawler and father Slawomir Ptak officiating. Burial will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Piopolis.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for the Brenda Lueke Scholarship Fund.
