MT. VERNON —
Dwight “D. L.” Huston, 80, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Nature Trail HCC.
He was born in Mt. Vernon on Dec. 2, 1931, the son of Lester and Laverne (Conn) Huston. He married Albia Bea (Ponnie) Bledsoe on Dec. 15, 1952, in Mt. Vernon and she preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 2009.
Mr. Huston was a member of Clearview Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed teaching Sunday school and dearly loved his grandkids.
Mr. Huston is survived by a daughter, Diane Lowery and husband Dick of Bluford; two grandchildren, Regina “Gina” Lowery and fiancé David Jenner of San Antonio and Todd Lowery and wife Melissa of Mt. Vernon; three great-grandchildren, Blake Gregory and wife Jessica, Jake Gregory and fiancée Amanda Stewart and Brittney Henson; a brother, Roger Huston and wife Donna of Bradley; two nieces, Tonya and Lori; a nephew, George; sister-in-laws, Flozell Mitchell of Sanford, Fla., Nonnie Bledsoe of Nashville, Tenn., Sue Corry of Jacksonville, Ala., Joyce Bledsoe of Jacksonville, Ala.; brother-in-laws, Jerry Myers of Sanford, Fla., and the Rev. Gene Bledsoe of Jacksonville, Ala; several nieces and nephews and lifelong friends; and special lawn mower repair buddy Ron Marcum and wife Becky.
Mr. Huston was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife.
Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the East Salem Cemetery in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Mike Johnson officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
