MT. VERNON — Doris Evelyn Freeman, 75, of Mt. Vernon, died 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

She was born Monday, March 15, 1937, in Benton, the daughter of Harvey and Bertha (Somers) Barnfield. She married John Frederick Freeman on Aug. 25, 1984, in Benton; he preceded her in death May 11, 2010.

She is survived by three daughters, Debbie Joslin and husband Mike of Christopher, Lori Lewis of Columbia, Mo., and Lyn McKay and special friend Mark Buller of Centralia; five sons, John C. Freeman of St. Paul, Minn., Roger Bixler and wife Kathy of Mt. Vernon, James Bixler and wife Penny of West Frankfort, Vic Bixler of West Frankfort and Carl Bixler and wife Carol of Springfield; two brothers, Gene Barnfield and wife Roberta of Benton and Bobby Barnfield of West Frankfort; three sisters, Linda Martin and husband Chuck of Florida, Juanita Soules and husband Bob of Florida and Betty Jane Barnfield of Florida; 33 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Virgil Paul Barnfield and Michael Lee Barnfield; and a daughter, Johanna Freeman.

Doris was a medical transcriptionist at ACS of Mt. Vernon before retiring and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Temple in St. Louis.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ Later Day Saints in West Frankfort with Bishop Keith Wilcox officiating. Interment will be at Denning Cemetery in West Frankfort.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
