Doris Mae Webb, 93, of Mt. Vernon, died 5:40 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at White Oaks Rehabilitation and Care Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Sunday, Nov. 30, 1919, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of William Howard and Edith Mae (Knight) Whobrey. She married Carl Webb on Feb. 8, 1936, in Mt. Vernon. They were married for 61 years before he passed away on June 27, 1997.
Doris helped her husband run Annex Refrigerator and Air Conditioner Service and was a life-long resident of Mt. Vernon. She was a charter member of Westside Missionary Baptist Church and served as the church clerk and pianist for many years. Doris wanted to leave her loved ones with these kind words, “I am so thankful for my wonderful children who always respected and cared for me.”
She is survived by her two daughters, Carla Davis of Mt. Vernon and Carol Martin of Mt. Vernon; sister, Virginia Walker of Mt. Vernon; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mae Whobrey of Hammond and Dorothy Whobrey of West Frankfort; and several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years; two sons, Jimmie and David Webb; daugher, Becky Hahn; two grandsons, Donald Fleener and Donald Davis; and three brothers, Roger, Paul and Bill Whobrey.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
