Charles Skibinski

Charles Edward “Ski” Skibinski, 87, of McLeansboro, passed away 9:50 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at McLeansboro Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in McLeansboro.

He was born Aug. 17, 1925, in McLeansboro, the son of Edward Leland Skibinski and Helen (Greer) Skibinski. He married Roberta (Ritchey) Skibinski on July 2, 1948, in Morganfield, Ky., and she preceded him in death on Oct. 9, 2006.

He was the owner and operator of Phillips 66 Service Station, Standard Oil Service Station and he operated the DX-Service Station. He was a member of the U.S. Navy, LST 506 during Normandy in WWII. He was a member of the Masonic Polk Lodge 137 A.F. and A.M. of McLeansboro for over 50 years. He excelled in grooming their yard and keeping their home well maintained. He loved golfing, spending time with friends and family and especially having his great-grandchildren come visit.

He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Northcutt and husband Jerry of Hilliard, Ohio, and Rebecca Skibinski and companion Terry Mueller of Carbondale; one granddaughter, Bethany Bigham and husband William of Cedarville, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Madalyn, Samantha, Elijah and Austin Charles Bigham of Cedarville, Ohio; and two brothers-in-law, Charlie Ritchey and wife Carole of McLeansboro and Howard Ritchey and wife Judy of McLeansboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Roberta; brother, James Skibinski; and sister, Lois Cox.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Harre Funeral Home. Graveside military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 106 and Military Honor Team, Marion. Sister Ruby McDowell will officiate. Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in McLeansboro.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Masonic services will be conducted at 7 p.m. by Polk Lodge 137 A.F and A.M.

Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, is in charge of all arrangements.
