Wilma C. “Chub” Clifton Shafer, 97, of Kell, died at 2:08 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born on Oct. 22, 1915, in Iuka, the daughter of William Henry and Zelma (Easley) Clifton. On Sept. 8, 1933, in Iuka, she married Walter “Jake” Shafer and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Shafer enjoyed quilting and was a member of Donoho Prairie Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School. She was a cook at the Kell Grade School for many years and she was a member of the Marion County Home Extension.
She is survived by a son, Henry Dean and wife Joan Shafer of Bluford; two daughters, Linda Lowery and husband Denzil Jr. of Mt. Vernon and Glenna Mount and husband Kenny of Kell; eight grandchildren, Douglas Dean Shafer of Bluford, Patricia Lowery of Mt. Vernon, Jared Lowery and wife Sarah of Sheller, Dale Maxey and wife Sheila of Millington, Tenn., Rhonda Evans and husband Daryn of Germantown, Tenn., Rodney Maxey and wife Vicki of Wayne City, Stacey McGee and husband Kent of Desoto and Rhonda Mare of Royalton; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Shafer was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; six brothers, Ellis, Cecil, Estel, Verl, Raymond and Wilbern (Budge); a sister, Dorothy Clark; and a sister-in-law, Camillia Clifton.
Funeral services for Wilma Shafer will be held at noon on Saturday at Osborn Funeral Home with Russell Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Donoho Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
