---- — Pastor Glendall Lee Davis, 88, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on June 2, 2013. At the time of his passing, Glendall was being cared for at the Mt. Vernon Health Care located in Mt Vernon.

Glendall was the son of Joe and Leona (Smith) Davis and was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Eldorado. He was a carpenter and owner of Davis Home Improvements and served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. While in the U.S. Army, Glendall achieved the rank of Technician 5th Grade and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon, the Victory Ribbon and U.S. Army Good Conduct Medal. Glendall was a member of the Mt. Vernon Local Carpenter’s Union for over 50 years. Glendall served as pastor for various churches in Southern Illinois, including Marlow General Baptist Church and Second General Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Leona; and brothers, Hank, Paul, Eugene and Jim Davis.

He is survived by brothers, Nick and wife Paulene of Marion and Jack Davis; sister, Calleen Briner of Henderson Nev.; one son, Gene Davis of Anchorage Alaska; daughters, Sharon Hobbs and Elaine Derry, both of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Joe Davis and wife Sherry, Tim Davis and wife Tiffany, all of Bluford, Tammy Davis-Mandell and husband R.D. of Anchorage, Alaska, Sherry McMillen, Sheila Cameron of Mt. Vernon, Kim Chamberlain and husband Tyson of Mt. Vernon, Alicia Westbrook and husband Randy of Mt. Vernon and Stacie Scott of Mt. Vernon; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Glendall Lee Davis will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Richard Paul Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Sursa Cemetery in rural Mt. Vernon. The American Legion Post 141 in Mt. Vernon will provide military honors.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
