---- — Bob G. Atchison, 89, of Altamont, died 3:15 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Altamont with the Rev. Dr. Lowell Donnelley officiating. A graveside service with military rites will follow at 4 p.m. at Opdyke Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Gieseking Funeral Home in Altamont, and for one hour prior to service time at the church.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Bob was born Sunday, Aug. 5, 1923, in Mt. Vernon, to James and Augusta Whiteside Atchison. He married Dorma Lowrey on Jan. 10, 1942, in St. Louis, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 2008.

Bob spent 60 years in the ministry, serving as pastor at several churches in the Mt. Vernon area and at Vera Baptist Church, Jackson Township Baptist Church and as associate pastor at Altamont First Baptist Church. He was a WW II Army veteran and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

Bob is survived by his son, Terry Atchison of Mt. Vernon; daughters, Judy Tapp of Altamont and Bobbie Gannon of Wasilla, Alaska; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles; sisters, Mildred Middlecoff and Pauline Allen; sons-in-law, Jim Tapp and Jim Gannon; and great-great-granddaughter, Olivia Sidwell.
