Paul Kenny Howell, age 65, of Kell, passed away 1:40 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at the Palm Terrace Health Care Center in Mattoon.
Paul was born in Red Bay, Ala., on Oct. 10, 1947, the son of Fred and Loriece (Garrett) Howell. He married Diana (Aussieker) on Oct. 10, 1970, in Centralia.
Paul was a horse trainer. He had a great love for animals, caring for and training them. He also loved spending time with his grandson Matthew and riding on his scoter. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during Vietnam.
Paul is survived by a his wife, Diana of Kell; two sons, Jeff Howell and wife Lori of Odin and Scott Howell of Sesser; two daughters, Amy Howell of Centralia and Heather and husband Louie Smith of Centralia; one brother, Danny Howell and wife Sara of Centralia; two sisters, Charlotte and husband Chuck Lyons of Sandoval and Tina and husband Steve Quick of Centralia; one grandson, Matthew Smith; step-grandsons, Alex and Thomas Young; several nieces and nephews; and also a special buddy, String Bean.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Howell.
Funeral Services for Paul K. Howell will be held 1 p.m. today at the L.R Osborn and Son in Kell with the Brother Chuck Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Deadmond Cemetery in rural Odin. Military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be held from 12 noon until service time today at the funeral home.
For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or the American Diabetes Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
