---- — Anthony John “Tony” Lowther, 46, formerly of Mt. Vernon, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at his home in Troy.
He was born on Nov. 15, 1966, and adopted at two weeks old in Oklahoma City by the late Donald Camby Lowther and Joan A. (Koons) Lowther. Raised in Mt. Vernon, Tony graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School and went on to study at Rend Lake College (Class of 1986).
At the time of his death, Tony was employed as a salesman at Laura Buick-GMC in Collinsville. As an avid cylcist, Tony raced for the Big Shark team in St. Louis for several years. When he wasn’t himself riding, he was either watching a race or seeking out more toys for his hobby. While music was always an integral part of his life, his real passion was his family for whom he had a deep rooted love – which, by the way, was about the only thing that rivaled his dedication and passion for St. Louis Rams football.
In addition to his mother, Tony is survived by his devoted wife, Heather (Patton) Lowther of Troy, whom he married on May 13, 2012; his daughters, India Leigh Lowther and Alexis Ailene Lowther, both of Bluford; his stepchildren, Seth and Chloe Watkins of Troy; his twin sister, Barbara “Cissy” Hanagan and husband Steve of Mt. Vernon; his brother, Paul of Springfield; his former wife, Tiffany (Johnson) Davis; and numerous extended family and friends who will all miss his ability to make them laugh.
In honor of his wishes, Tony was cremated and his family will receive visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. A memorial service will immediately follow at 8 p.m. with Mr. Marty Mills officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Tony’s memory for a college fund established for his daughters, India and Alexis. Please make checks payable to “Tiffany Davis”. Memorial contributions will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
