---- — Norman R. Cravens, 77, of Dahlgren, passed away 10:35 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at his residence. He was born Sept. 14, 1936, in Wayne City, the son of Owen P. Cravens and Hilda (Ripplinger) Cravens. He married Lena Maxine (Jones) on Nov. 16, 1958, in Dahlgren. He was a salesman and employed by FS farm service. He was a born again Chrisitan that attended Freedom Baptist Church, McLeansboro. He loved farming, hunting and physically working in the outdoors. The most important thing in life was his family — wife, children and grandchildren. Norman was a member of Jefferson Lodge 0368 A.F. and A.M., Opdyke. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He is survived by his wife, Lena Cravens of Dahlgren; son, Scott Cravens (wife Melody Ann) of Dahlgren; five grandchildren, Aaron Scott, Austin Jeffrey and Rylan Melott Cravens of Dahlgren, Amy Green of Denver and Briar Curd of Dahlgren; two brothers; and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jeffrey L. Cravens. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Freedom Baptist Church, McLeansboro with the Rev. Steve Shoultz and the Rev. Kenny Holland officiating. Graveside military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 106, McLeansboro and Military Honors Team, Marion. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery, Dahlgren. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Harre Funeral Home, Dahlgren and 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church. For those who wish, memorials may be given to Freedom Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home. Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, is in charge of all arrangements.
