Leona Lee Heck, 87, of Bonnie, died 9:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Wednesday, May 12, 1926, in Nason, the daughter of John and Petronilla (Pulaikis) Julius. She married Charles E. Heck on Oct. 28, 1946, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1985.
She is survived by four children, Larry E. Heck and wife Brenda Sue of Loveland, Colo., Robert L. Heck of Bonnie and special friend Vickie Bates of Sesser, Bruce C. Heck and wife Pamela of Bonnie and Jeff L. Heck and wife Roxy of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Larry D. Heck of Castle Rock, Colo., Danny W. Heck and wife Glenda of Arvada, Colo., Tanya Jean Patterson and husband Damon of Dacono, Colo., Nathan John Heck of Bonnie, Wendy Dawn Breeze and husband Eric of Waltonville, Rachel Jean Heck of Bonnie, Aubrey Jayne Heck of Knoxville, Tenn., and Keely Rae Heck of Springfield; a sister, Barb Lappin of Sesser; nine great-grandchildren; a niece; and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, John Julius Jr. and his wife, Delores; and a nephew, Gary Lee Julius.
Leona was a homemaker and farmed with her husband. She was a member of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the St. Mary Good Samaritan Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mt. Venron with Father John Iffert officiating. Interment will be at Abner Cemetery in Nason.
Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the American Alzheimer's Association or St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon IL 62864.
