Woodrow Hershel “Woody” Eagan Jr., 65, of Mt. Vernon, died 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at his home in Mt. Vernon.
He was born July 22, 1948, in Salem, the son of Woodrow Herschel Sr. and Ruth J. (Jones) Eagan. He married Karen Boone.
In addition to his wife, Karen Eagan of Mt. Vernon; he is survived by a stepson, Fred Mooney and wife Melissa of Belle Rive; three step grandchildren, Darien Leber of Valier and Hailey and Karissa Mooney of Belle Rive; and two brothers, Brian Eagan and wife Beckey of Walnut Hill and Robert Eagan of Centralia.
Woody was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He served four tours in Vietnam, and was a Purple Heart recipient as well as earning several other medals and citations during his 10 years of military service. He was an over-the-road truck driver, a member of ABATE, the Mt. Vernon Eagles Aerie Lodge 2791 and was of the Baptist faith.
In honor of his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no funeral visitation or funeral service.
