The Rev. Eugene Dye, 90, of Mt. Vernon, died at 4:39 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at his home in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Opdyke, the son of Nellie Dye. He married Betty L. Smith on Oct. 11, 1947, in Mt. Vernon, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 2000.
He is survived by a son, Tim Dye and wife Sarah of Mt. Vernon; granddaughter, Ashtyn Dye of Mt. Vernon; two step grandchildren, Kristina Anderson and Christopher Anderson, both of Mt. Vernon; four great-grandchildren; several nieces; and several nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Jerry Lemay and Junior Lemay.
Rev. Dye first worked at the Vernois Stove Foundry in Mt. Vernon and later went on to minister many General Baptist churches in Southern Illinois until retiring. He helped start New Life Ministries in Mt. Vernon and was a member of New Life Harvest Church, also in Mt. Vernon. He was a member of Modern Woodmen.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Terry Buchanan officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
