Aleta Houseworth

---- — Aleta Fern Houseworth, 89, of Christopher, passed away at 12:35 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Aleta was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Sesser, to Arthur Franklin and Cora (Allen) Hamilton. She was raised in Sesser and northwest of Sesser in the White Oak Community. She attended White Oak School and White Oak Baptist Church while growing up.

She married Byford Modert Houseworth in 1940. To this union was born two sons, Gary Dale and Roger Leon Houseworth. After her sons were grown and married, Aleta and Byford made their home in Del City and Oklahoma City for 25 years before returning to Christopher.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting. She also enjoyed the company of her three cats, Snowball, Blackie and Yeller. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Christopher.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Robin Houseworth of Johnston City; four grandsons, Dale Ray Houseworth of Christopher, Greg (Mary Ann) Houseworth, Brent (Angie) Houseworth of Pinkneyville and Brian (Dana) Houseworth of Sesser; nine great-grandchildren, Tristan and Morgan Houseworth of Herrin, Colton Houseworth of Peoria, Dakota Miller of Sesser, Kirsten, Blake and Mason Houseworth of Sesser and Emily and Abbey Sims of Pinkneyville; two special nieces, Neva McBride of Secor and Joyce Swick of Glendale, Ariz.; and a very special cousin, Ray Willis of Mt. Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son and daughter-in-law, Gary Dale and Sharon Houseworth; three brothers, Paul, Harl and Everett Hamilton; sister, Virginia Van Hoorebeke; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded by her good friends, Bill and Charlotte Hopper.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church, 105 N. Maple Street in Christopher with Daniel Ison officiating. Interment will follow at the Butler Cemetery in Buckner.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City.
