Charles Robert Kite, 76, of Mt. Vernon, died 9:10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Friday, April 24, 1936, in Mt. Vernon, son of Charles A. and Helen (Chizk) Kite. He married Shirley McKay on Oct. 9, 1965, in Mt. Vernon.
Charles worked for A&P Grocery from 1952 to 1966, starting when he was 16 years old. He later owned and operated the Dairy Queen Restaurant in Mt. Vernon until retiring.
He is survived by wife, Shirley Kite of Mt. Vernon; brother, Larry L. Kite and wife Anita of Wheaton; three nephews, Zach Kite and wife Jill of Glen Ellyn, Scott Kite and special friend Michelle Stukel of Buffalo Grove and Shawn Kite of Wheaton; two nieces, Angie Kite of Plainfield and Rachel Windle and husband Bill of Santee, Calif.; and six great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
