College Corner: RLC women's tennis, men's golf, baseball kick off seasons

Women’s tennis, men’s golf and baseball kicked off their fall seasons this past weekend. The tennis team finished third at the Dorothy McClure Tournament at Millikin University on Saturday. RLC ladies split morning singles by losing 1-5 to 2009 tourney champ St. Francis and sweeping host Millikin 6-0. In the afternoon doubles matches, Rend Lake lost to eventual champion Augustana, 3-0, before defeating Concordia College, 2-1.

Baseball beat Mid-Continent University 19-4 on the road and Warriors golf took second at the 2010 RLC Fall Invitational, held at Franklin County Country Club. The Warriors lost by one stroke to the Volunteers from John A. Logan College and RLC freshman Zach Holland (Maryville) tied for third with a 73-73-146.    

Coming up this week … Men’s golf continues with the final round of the 2010 John A. Logan Invitational on Monday, and baseball heads to Kaskaskia at 3 p.m. Tuesday and hosts Mid-Continent University at noon Saturday. Volleyball will start its fall season Wednesday with an evening match at Southwestern Illinois; women’s golf starts its fall campaign at Maryville University on Thursday; soccer officially kicks off its fall season at Southwestern Illinois on Thursday and heads to Lincoln Land Saturday; men’s and women’s cross country will start Friday at the Saluki Early Bird in Carbondale; and softball’s fall season gets underway Saturday at the John A. Logan Fall Classic.
