Our View: Exercise? Not a problem

It wasn’t hard for a Naperville man to find time to exercise. George Hood has reclaimed his title for the most time spent on a stationary bicycle in the Guinness Book of World Records. A retired Drug Enforcement Agency investigator from Aurora, Hood started his ride to nowhere on May 5 and finished May 12. After his ride, he was taken to a hospital as a precaution for a physical exam.

Hood held the record at 111 hours, 11 minutes and 11 seconds on a bike until last summer when a Tasmanian cyclist broke the record. Hood recaptured the title with 177 hours over eight days — the equivalent of 2.016 miles and more than 46,000 calories burned.

At a time when most people find it hard to work in aerobic exercise of 30 minutes a day three to five days a week, it would be interesting to know how Hood prepared for and trained in the weeks leading up to his record-breaking ride.
