Our View: Nice job by RLCD board, employees

There were a couple of really positive items to come from this week’s meeting of the Rend Lake Conservancy District Board of Trustees. First, the district received more than a glowing review during its most recent audit. In fact, the auditor heaped praise upon the district by saying the following: “You can’t get any better than perfect.”

Shawn Williamson of Frick, Eggemeyer and Williamson reported to the board on Monday, “out of the 100 audits I do each year, given the complexity of the finances at the district, this report puts (Comptroller Wayne Tate) in the top 1 percent of controllers. I am fairly sure that on any other accounts we audit, there would have been some problem with journal entries, but there were none with this audit.”

Among other developments at Monday’s meeting, the RLCD board voted to reduce the property tax levy by 5 percent. This comes at a time when many governing bodies are seeking as much money as possible, in a state that is struggling financially to the point of placing further burden on its residents.

We applaud the Rend Lake Conservancy District for both of these developments. You have come a long way in the last few years.
