Unfortunately, budget cuts are a way of life in today’s culture. Businesses and governing bodies alike are being forced to slash dollars in order to keep from going under. The state of Illinois is among those making cuts, and the cuts trickling down from Springfield are downright disheartening.
State parks, services, programs and facilities all are in danger of becoming extinct during the current wave of cutbacks within the state government. One that caught our eye this week was the potential harm that may come to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
DCFS is a department responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of children, among other duties. In a perfect world, this program would see increased funding. But as it stands now, the department will see a loss in state funding. And that is a shame.
The cuts will be felt at the local level throughout the state, and lawmakers should seriously reconsider allowing DCFS funding to lag.
