Our View: Library gift demonstrates community pride

October 10, 2008 10:35 am

A recent donation to the C.E. Brehm Memorial Public Library has allowed the library to purchase some 29 mostly multi-volume books geared toward teens and children.
The donation paved the way for the books previously on the “wish list” of library staff, as the $5,000 picked up the tab for items that had been out of fiscal reach. The money was donated by Charlotte Suhler, a former Mt. Vernon resident who, along with her husband, John, offered the gift in memory of her father, former Register-News General Manager Robert K. Thompson.
We are very pleased to see such a donation to the library and cannot help but feel a bit of pride that “one of our own” is directly related to the gift. Thanks, Mr. and Mrs. Suhler, for your act of kindness and pride in this community.
