Our View: October showers bring November ...

If it seemed like the sun was a bit elusive last month, it is not your imagination. According to a report released on Monday by the Illinois State Water Survey, average rainfall in the state was 8.9 inches — six inches higher than the normal average.

The Associated Press reported the rainfall total for October was the highest for the state during that month since 1941, when the average was 9.2 inches of rain. The Illinois Water Survey report as analyzed by The Associated Press determined the heaviest rainfall fell in Southern Illinois as well as in the Decatur/Bloomington/Normal region.

In addition to the increase in rainfall, temperatures also were lower throughout the state, with the average in Illinois being 49.8 degrees — 4.8 degrees cooler than a normal October.

In April, we have May flowers to look forward to after the rains. We wonder what we have to look forward to in November.
