Our View: Festival reminds us of the good things in life

MT. VERNON — There are plenty of things in life to be worried about, such as caring for family, having a job, paying the bills, upkeep on homes and autos.

But there are also plenty of things to remind us that life is precious — the birth of a baby, the laughter of a child, a hug from an older respected member of our extended family.

This weekend, the Celebrate Life Festival will be held to remind all of us that as bad as things may be, we should still take the time to celebrate the everyday joys of life and remember there are those out there who can help make our worries and cares easier to bear.

A number of organizations band together for the festival: CASA of Jefferson County; United Methodists Children’s Home; Hope United Foster Grandparent Program; Salem South Association Youth Camp; GreenTree Memory Care Residential Program; Domestic Animals in a Safe Haven; Addus Health Care; Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Vacation Bible School; His Will, His Way Ministries, Angels’ Cove Maternity Center; and Orchardville Community Church among others.

So this weekend, even if you can’t make it to the Celebrate Life Festival at the Mt. Vernon Outland Airport, take a moment to reflect on the good things.

Your worries may be a little easier to bear.
