Medicaid fraud read issue

Editor:

To those who have told me the last few days people who write to the papers all the time make them tired, I apologize. However, on the heels of my “fraud tax” letter comes news that Illinois Medicaid paid $12.3 million in benefits to people who were dead. My response to you is, I think you need to start writing also!

Auditor General William Holland commented, “That’s a lot.” He could have added, it is only the tip of the iceberg. Why it is easier for the state to go back on their promises to retirees than stop payments to dead people is a mystery to me.

Let me define “fraud tax” again — money paid by honest tax payers to support dishonest money taken from the state. I hope the rest of you start writing and guest columnists turn their attention to this real problem. One of my favorite movie quotes comes from the Sundance Kid in Butch Cassidy and the Kid when he says “Do something.” Springfield should listen to The Kid!

My compliments also to the writer who noted the “verbal free for all” that you find on the talk shows. No wonder we can’t get kids to engage in civil debate. If those people are making millions shouting down each other maybe I can also?

There is a simple solution here however — turn it off!
