City needs to rethink project

Editor:

I don’t understand our city leaders reasoning on the latest project they started.

When I first read in the paper that the city was going to start picking up our recyclables with the trash pick-up I thought it was a great idea, but when I read the part where they were going to transport it to St. Louis, I no longer thought it was a good idea at all.

I don’t understand why they would do that. We have at least three recycling places here in Mt. Vernon. I am not familiar with the others, but I have taken my recyclables to Kendricks for years and will continue to do so. Is the city trying to put our businesses out of business? I am also upset that I have to pay for this service even though I’m not using it.

I hope this city will do the right thing and rethink this project. What is picked up in Mt. Vernon needs to stay in Mt. Vernon to keep our local businesses in business.
