MT. VERNON —
Time has come to again nominate individuals for the Mt. Vernon Township High School Distinguished Alumni program. The MVTHS Foundation will review nominations and select individuals to join the exclusive group later in the year.
“The main reason for doing this is there have been a lot of very successful graduates from Mt. Vernon — just like any school — and we feel recognizing them provides role models for current students in high school,” said MVTHS Foundation President Carl Miller. “A former head of the Mayo Clinic was a graduate. We’ve had a UN Ambassador graduate from Mt. Vernon. Last year, one Outstanding Alumni works with the government of Dubai and is helping them with their monetary system. There’s just a lot of extremely distinguishing people, both in achievement, and we think recognition will provide role models for future students.”
A nominee must be a graduate from MVTHS. Nominations should include the person’s name, year of graduation, biography, information of accomplishments and a statement why the individual should be considered for Distinguished Alumni recognition.
Nominations may be mailed to Dr. Michael Smith, superintendent, Mt. Vernon Township High School, 320 S. Seventh St., Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
If you need to check those already named Distinguished Alumni, visit the high school’s administrative office. If you think of a worthy individual, take the time to collect as much information as possible and compile it into a nomination.
