Dobson speaks truth

The Register-News

---- — Editor:

My heart-felt thanks goes out to Dr. Dobson for his comments about abortion during time at the microphone on the National Day of Prayer last week. Also, I compliment him for his defense of his Biblically-based beliefs during an interview soon after on the Fox Television News Network. Bravely, in these days of political correctness, he was voicing the sentiment of millions of Americans in his remarks.

Some have said that the National Day of Prayer was not the place to make the remarks, politicized the National Day of Prayer. The subject was politicized when the court made the killing of unborn babies legal.

Some have said his remarks were an unwarranted attack on the President. The President is perhaps the only national government elected official in Washington who has voted, when he was a member of the Illinois State Senate, not to resuscitate babies who remained alive and were born during the attempt to abort them. The President cannot be separated from the concerted effort by the national government to promote abortion in our nation today. President Truman, talking about his office, said, “The buck stops here.”

Since 1973, over 55 million lives have been snuffed out in the womb in our nation. God’s word condemns the shedding of innocent blood. Talking to ancient Judah, God’s chosen people, in Jeremiah 7:31, God condemned them for “burn(ing) their sons and daughters in fire.” He continued, “Which I did not command, and it did not come into mind.” What place houses more innocence than the womb?

For generations our nation, even the Declaration of Independence declared all men created equal, heavy on the created, the laws and the courts in our land defended the Biblical sanctity of life. Since 1973, all legal precedence on the subject has been thrown out. Since 1973, it has been a constant fight in our nation to restore respect for the sanctity of life. One of the big elephants in the room at the National Prayer Breakfast through the years has been the silence on this spiritual issue. Again, thank you, Dr. Dobson, for bringing the issue out of the closet.

Dr. Dobson pulled no punches in what he said about why he opposes the President’s Affordable Care Act. It is the law and we know what is in it. Nothing about the law has been repealed, even though the President, with no constitutional right to do so, has postponed some of the most onerous provisions to prevent political fall-out prior to this year’s election cycle. Billions of dollars for abortion are provided for in the legislation. The President and his Congressional supporters are proud of this legislation. They passed it and are now vigorously defending it in both fair ways and foul.

I would ask those who criticize Dr. Dobson, what do you not understand about the truth? This will continue to be a contentious issue in our nation. Elections have consequences and another important election is coming up in November.
