Sainthood unscriptural

Editor:

In her Friday, May 9 article, "The Work of Saints," Ms. Lopez reports that she was in Rome to see the Cannonization of two popes, John XXIII and John Paul II. Two popes were present, Francis and retired Pope Benedict the XVI. I guess you could call this a four ring circus, or maybe a circus vaticanus. I mean to disrespect to Ms. Lopez, who is obviously sincere in her beliefs, but the poor girl is beguiled by the smoke of Rom and her sorceries.

The bestowing of sainthood on men by men is a ridiculous farce and is totally unscriptural. Saints are made by God in heaven alone to those who trust in Christ alone, by grace alone, through faith alone as revealed by the scriptures alone (Ephesians 2:8-10) and who imputes the righteousness of Christ to them (Romans 4:5,6, 11). By the way, these Bible truths are pronounced anathema (accursed) by the Roman Catholic Church as stated in the Council of Trent, which is still in effect evan after VAtican II (e.g. "if anyone says that the sacraments of the new law of the Roman Catholic Church are not necessary for salvation but ... that without them ... men obtain from God through faith alone the grace of justification ... let him be anathema.") Council of Trent, 7, general, 4.

Pope John Paul XXIII confirmed Trent in his opening speech at the Vatican II ecumenical counsel when he said, "the fundamental doctrine of the church which has been repeatedly taught by the fathers and by ancient and modern theologians and which ... still shines forth in the acts of the Counsel of Trent." Trent pronounces over 100 anathemas (curses) on those who reject their teachings as did those in the Reformation. Rome has kept this hidden.

True evangelical Protestants love Roman Catholics and want them to be saved. Obviously the Vatican does not wish evangelical Protestants well. Paul writes in his epistle to the Romans, "to all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be Saints: grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 1:7). To Roman Catholics I would ask, "Am I therefore because your enemy because I tell you the truth?" (Galatians 4:16)
