    DIX — The 57th Rome Invitational Basketball Tournament concluded on Friday night with the Woodlawn Warriors capturing the championship by way of a 54-48 victory over the Rome Green Hornets.

    DIX — After the fourth night of action at the 57th Rome Invitational Basketball Tournament, it would appear that those who do the seeding have been proven to be more or less right about their choices.
  •  Woodlawn, host Hornets reach semifinals
    DIX — The third night of the 57th Rome Invitational Tournament ended with wins by Waltonville, Woodlawn and the host school, Rome.
    In the first round of the consolation bracket, the Waltonville Spartans defeated the Iuka Pirates, 54-21.

    FORSYTH — Last Saturday’s Decatur MacArthur Class 2A sectional was a joyous time for the Mt. Vernon Township girls cross-country team, the Lady Rams having qualified for this weekend’s state meet.
    But for junior Keatyn Kujawa, it was a day mixed with happiness and heartbreak.

    DIX — On the second night of the 57th staging of the Rome basketball tournament, the Field Panthers and the Raccoon Blue Devils each advanced in the championship bracket Tuesday at Rome Grade School.

    MT. VERNON — Monday night’s awards program banquet wasn’t about the wins and losses with the Mt. Vernon Township High School varsity football team. It was more about recognizing the young men who endured a trying 2009 campaign.

    FORSYTH — To Connie Harre-Blair, it didn’t require rocket science, nor did she feel the need to deliver a Knute Rockne-style speech to get her Mt. Vernon Township High School girls cross-country team motivated for Saturday’s Decatur MacArthur Class 2A sectional.
    “I just told the girls that they’ve done it all season, and they did it again,” Harre-Blair said after the Lady Rams finished third in the team standing and qualified for next weekend’s state finals.
