Jr. Tennis 6th at SI Playoffs

— FAIRFIELD — The Mt. Vernon 14-and-under junior tennis team finished sixth on Wednesday at the Southern Illinois Playoffs at Fairfield.
Mt. Vernon fell 36-19 to Teutopolis in the first round, losing a pair of tie-breakers in mixed doubles.
Mt. Vernon defeated Mount Carmel 27-24 in the consolation bracket, getting wins from Nathan Arnold in boys singles, Liz Hurst in girls singles and Brent Flota and Maddie Casad in mixed doubles.
In the fifth-place match, Benton edged Mt. Vernon 27-23. Aaron Burge and Brody Neal won 6-3 in boys doubles for Mt. Vernon, while Nathan Arnold won in boys singles and Zack Swinnen and Jade Knox won in mixed doubles.
