Rams run past Cahokia

CAHOKIA — Senior Nick Sager scored a hat trick, while classmates Travis Carello and Ryan Quick added two goals each en route to a 10-1 victory for Mt. Vernon over Cahokia Saturday afternoon in a South Seven Conference soccer showdown.
“Scoring wasn’t a problem,” said Rams’ coach Steve Harrison. “Cahokia’s not very good. For our kids it was good for them to get a win, but you’ve got to be realistic. It would have been nice if it would have been Carbondale.”
Also picking up goals in the win were Dylan Starr, Ethan O’Neal and Joey Sweeney.
“Nick hadn’t scored in probably three years,” Harrison said. “He’s been strictly defense. We gave him a chance to get up and [he] did a great job.
“Travis got a couple goals and Ethan got one. We had our defense up there basically giving them a chance to score and they did a pretty good job.”
The Rams will play at Salem tonight before traveling to Anna-Jonesboro on Tuesday. Both games are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
Mt. Vernon will host its final regular season home game Thursday when it entertains South Seven foe Centralia at 4 p.m.
