Rend Lake on to semis

DANVILLE — The Rend Lake College mens basketball team topped South Suburban on Wednesday night in the NJCAA Division II Mens National Tournament.

The Warriors won the game 85-83 in overtime after erasing a double-digit halftime deficit.

Woodlawn graduate Bronson Verhines had 13 points and 13 rebounds. His brother, Dawson, added eight points.

Jeril Taylor led the team with 19 and was one of four players in double figures.

The Warriors play for a spot in the championship game at 6 p.m. Friday.

ZRC baseball tops Woodlawn

Zeigler Royalton-Christopher beat Woodlawn’s baseball team 14-4.

Woodlawn’s Matt Kennedy and Brendan Petersen both had a hit and two RBI in the game.

Bryson Sanders, Garrett Minks and D.J. Moore all had a hit each.

Johnston City downs Webber

Webber’s baseball team lost 10-0 to Johnston City.

Ty Henderson started the game for the Trojans and threw three innings. He allowed four hits and had six strikeouts.

Logan Ganieany had a double for Webber. Austin Gowler and Lane Moser both had a single each.

ZRC softball knocks off Woodlawn

Woodlawn’s softball team lost 17-2 to Zeigler Royalton-Christopher.

Kerstie Harlow and Katie Garren both had a hit each.
