Lady Cardinals fall to Carlyle

Woodlawn’s softball team lost 8-2 to Carlyle on Thursday.

Payton Tufts had two RBI for the Lady Cardinals, and Sam Williams added a hit.

Woodlawn is 0-2 this season and hosts Sandoval today.

Woodlawn baseball falls 7-0

The Cardinals lost 7-0 at Carlyle on Thursday.

Jayson Hapeman, Bryson Sanders, Tanner Hill and Garrett Minks all had a hit each for Woodlawn. Minks started the game on the mound and threw five innings.

Woodlawn is 0-2 and faces Sandoval today.

Evans leads SLU past New Mexico St.

SAN JOSE — Saint Louis is carrying on the memory of Rick Majerus the best way it knows how: by advancing in the NCAA tournament.

Dwayne Evans had 24 points and six rebounds, Cody Ellis scored 12 points and the fourth-seeded Billikens overwhelmed New Mexico State 64-44 in the second round Thursday behind a dominating defense.

They will play Saturday against 12th-seeded Oregon.

Oregon knocks off Oklahoma St.

SAN JOSE — Dominic Artis anticipated Marcus Smart’s pass and took the interception the other way for a layup early to set the tone for Oregon.

Despite the seedings and the all the pregame hype surrounding Oklahoma State’s star, the Ducks had the better team and the better freshman point guard Thursday night.

Artis had 13 points, four steals and helped slow down Smart while fellow freshman Damyean Dotson led the way with 17 points to help 12th-seeded Oregon . The Ducks face Saint Louis on Saturday.

Waltonville Trapshooting was among the teams competing, and claimed the Junior Class D National team title.
