MTC All-Conference softball team announced

The Jefferson County area had numerous players named to the Midland Trail All-Conference team.

Wayne City’s Hayley Spicer was named the conference’s Most Valuable Player. Joe Bernard of Wayne City was named Coach of the Year.

Woodlawn’s Cassandra Lueking, Payton Tufts, and Paige Tufts were all named to the squad. Sam Williams and Ryann French both made Honorable Mention.

Hannah Witter and Maegan Eskew of Waltonville/Sesser-Valier were named all-conference. Kourtney King was on Honorable Mention.

Webber’s Courtney Girvan was selected for the team, and Megan Kluck was named Honorable Mention.

In addition to Spicer, Megan Slover and Tori Pasley were named to the team from Wayne City.

Pairings set for MTC tournament

The Midland Trail Conference Tournament starts Tuesday and matchups have been released.

The tournament opens Tuesday with No. 9 Sandoval at No. 8 Webber.

Wednesday games are the Sandoval/Webber winner at No. 1 Wayne City, No. 5 Waltonville/Sesser-Valier at No. 4 Odin, No. 6 Cisne at NO. 3 Noble/Clay City, No. 7 Grayville at No. 2 Woodlawn.

Friday, the semifinal round starts at 4 p.m. in Noble with the third-place game and championship to follow.

Sports physicals scheduled at Mt. Vernon

Athletic physicals at Mt Vernon Township High School for any sophomore, junior or senior student who is planning to participate in any sport next season will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The cost is $5. All athletes should go to H Building.

AP source: LeBron wins 4th MVP award

LeBron James is getting his fourth Most Valuable Player award — and the only mystery left is whether the vote was unanimous.

The Miami Heat star will be introduced Sunday as the award winner, according to a person familiar with the results and who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the league has not publicly announced this year’s recipient.
