MT. VERNON —

The Rams basketball team was scheduled to play three games this week.

But like many plans this winter things have changed. Seven to 12 inches of snow hit the area on Sunday, altering tonight's sports schedule. The Rams matchup with Lovejoy scheduled for tonight was canceled, according to coach Scott Gamber.

The Rams now prepare for another critical South Seven Conference showdown on Friday followed by a Saturday night home game against Northwest Academy.

Mt. Vernon ended last week with its first conference victory of the season. After losses to Cahokia and Marion, Mt. Vernon knocked off Althoff in Changnon Gymnasium.

The Rams were without starting point guard Gilwan Nelson against Althoff, and Gamber said he didn't expect Nelson to play, if the Rams were in action tonight.

(I) highly doubt that he'll be able to play (tonight),” Gamber said. “(I'm) really hoping he will be able to play on Friday.”
