Sandoval tops Webber

By Paul Hines

BLUFORD — Sandoval used a big second quarter on its way to a 64-50 win over Webber on Monday night.

The two teams played a tight opening quarter, but Sandoval jumped out to a double-digit lead in the second quarter. Webber was in foul trouble throughout the game, and the Blackhawks opened up a 28-18 halftime edge.

Webber starters Zane Austin and Lane Moser were both whistled with three fouls each in the opening half.

It comes to that point of learning how to play hard on defense without fouling, and we've done that a lot this year,” Webber coach Brad Beaty said.

Brandon Raymer led Webber with 12 points and seven rebounds. Zane Austin added 10 points and four rebounds. Jaxon Helm finished with eight points.

We have to end the season trying to find some positives,” Beaty said.

The game was back and forth early on, but Sandoval used a run in the second quarter to establish a lead the Blackhawks never relinquished. Up 14-12, Sandoval outscored the Trojans 14-6 in the quarter.

The lead stayed near double digits throughout the second half. Webber closed the gap to 41-34 when Ryan Johnson put back an offensive rebound for a bucket. Sandoval's LaRon Anderson responded with a bucket of his own to push the margin back to nine. Webber never got closer.

Anderson led all scorers with 21 points.

If he gets to the baseline, he either scores, gets to the foul line or finds a teammate,” Beaty said.

Webber remains winless this season and host Clay City on Friday night.

Everybody knows we haven't won a game yet,” Beaty said. “We're down to the end of the schedule. I'm really proud of them, how hard they went, how their attitudes, the energy.”
