MT. VERNON — The Lady Rams tennis team celebrated a win on senior night Wednesday.
Mt. Vernon beat Carmi 9-0.
“We pulled out some close ones so I liked their composure and how they hung in there in the singles matches,” Mt. Vernon coach Randy Knox said.
Catie Raney and Shubhika Jain both won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0.
“They were both very consistent and played with a lot of confidence,” Knox said. “They stroked the ball real well. I'm real happy with them how they took control of the match and didn't let up.”
Gauri Kaushal, a senior, won at No. 3 singles 7-6, 7-5. Amanda Scott, another senior, was victorious 7-5, 6-3.
Abigail Winkler and Shreya Nair both had to be battle to beat their opponents. Winkler won in three sets 6-2, 5-7, 7-6. Nair was down 4-0 in her opening set before rallying to win 7-6. She took the second set 6-3.
In doubles action, the team of Raney and Kaushal won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1. Scott and Winkler were victorious 6-2, 6-2. Jain and Anessa Montgomery also won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
“I'm real pleased with the doubles, how well they played,” Knox said. “We moved Anessa Montgomery in there to (No.) 3 doubles, and she does a nice job also.”
Mt. Vernon is 13-1 this season and travels to Mt. Carmel on Thursday.
