Woodlawn rolls to title

Notch back-to-back regionals

Taytum Murdock served up passes. The Woodlawn front line combination of Annie Wehrheim and Ryann French slammed them down.

She sets the hot hands, that's what coach always says,” French said. “And that's what she's been doing.”

Woodlawn's volleyball team rocked Centralia Christ Our Rock in two games to claim its second consecutive regional title.

It's awesome to have back-to-back,” French said. “I was pumped the entire day. I couldn't wait to play. It's a great experience I love it.”

Woodlawn won the match 25-18, 25-13.

They kind of came back in that first game a little bit, and the second game they started out on a roll,” Woodlawn coach Sara Lamczyk said. “I thought they played excellent tonight. I was very impressed with them. They didn't just roll over. We had to really work for it, which is good.”

The offensive tandem of Wehrheim and French combined for 15 kills. Wehrheim led the Lady Cardinals with 10.

It means so much to me to come out and beat Christ Our Rock twice in a row to coach and everybody here and all our fans,” Wehrheim said.

The lone time Woodlawn trailed came very early in the second game. The Silver Stallions jumped to a 3-1 edge and held a 5-4 lead before Woodlawn coach Sara Lamczyk called time. The Lady Cardinals exited the break and matched the Silver Stallions energy the rest of the game.

I just felt like we were playing a little shook, a little nervous, which I have a lot that have never played in a regional game,” Lamczyk said. “When I called my timeout, I said, 'We just have to push our passes and stay focused.'”

Woodlawn grabbed the lead at 7-6 after a Silver Stallions hitting error. From there the Lady Cardinals started to roll, rattling off 13 of the next 17 points to seized a commanding 20-10 edge.
