MT. VERNON —
Mt. Vernon's David Modert will again represent the boys cross country team at the Peoria state finals.
Modert finished eighth overall in a time of 15:39 at the Decatur sectional.
“He was able to get out and run well,” Mt. Vernon boys cross country coach Clint Turner said. “He says he feels pretty good so leading into state that's a good deal.”
The Rams as a team placed ninth. The top five teams advanced to state. Mahomet-Seymour won the team title with a score of 60. Mt. Vernon finished with a 232 in the 12-team field.
“If you look at the five teams that got out, all five had at least two guys in the top 20,” Turner said. “And then you always have to think all your team needs to be in top no worse than 50, 60 at absolute worst. And that's what we talked about.”
Other runners for the Rams were: Jordan Wilemon 36th (16:23), Daniel Flood 54th (16:37), Ethan Badger 67th (16:49), Hagan Schneider 78th (17:01), Brykell Patton 106th (17:24) and Tyler Williams 129th (18:04).
“Our times were pretty good,” Turner said. “They weren't too bad. What we didn't have that everybody else had was that qualified was not one guy up in the top 20, they had two. It just makes for a good score.”
A pair of runners competed for the Lady Rams at the Decatur sectional.
Kate Bushue finished 34th overall in a time of 19:27. Camilla Bauer was 53rd in a time of 20:05. Both times were season bests.
