Effingham tops Mt. Vernon

Rams finish fourth in Salem Invitational Tournament

SALEM — Effingham never trailed in a 54-42 victory over Mt. Vernon in Saturday's third-place game at the Salem Invitational Tournament.

The Flaming Hears started with a small lead that grew to double digits in the third quarter. The Rams found themselves down 35-21 going into the final period. Mt. Vernon chipped the deficit down to nine midway through the final quarter but couldn’t get closer.

Braden Fitzjerrells led Mt. Vernon with 14 points. Shakari Hawkins added nine, and Jake Pike finished with seven.

Mt. Vernon shot 16 of 51 from the field and six of 12 from the free throw line.
