PEORIA — Webber's baseball team lost Saturday's 1A state championship 12-2 in six innings against Crete Illinois Lutheran.
Illinois Lutheran broke the game open early, scoring a combined seven runs in the second and third innings to take a commanding lead.
Webber's two runs came in the fourth inning. Logan Ganieany ripped an RBI double down the left-field line to score Zane Austin. Jordan Wheeler knocked Ganieany in with a single.
Webber continued to threaten in the inning, putting runners at second and third with two out. Illinois Lutheran starter Sam Geraci was able to get out of the jam when he got Michael Gartin to ground out to second.
Geraci started the game with three perfect innings against the Webber offense. Zane Austin spoiled the perfect game when he reached to start the third, and Ganieany's double ended the no-hitter.
Ganieany started the game on the mound for Webber and threw two and a third innings. Lane Moser pitched the final three and two thirds in relief.
Geraci powered the Illinois Lutheran offense. He finished with three hits and four RBI.
