Henderson named to all-state team

Ty Henderson ended his high school career with a top baseball honor.

The Webber senior was named to the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association 1A All-State team.

"It was nice to see him get the recognition he deserved," Webber coach Sam Root said. "A lot of times that all-state recognition, and he'd be the first to tell you too, that's a team honor. Because if your team doesn't have success, you're not going to get something like all-state."

Henderson was a leader on the mound, at the plate and in the field all season for the Trojans. Henderson said he tried to lead his team by example with the way he played.

"I'm not a very vocal person," Henderson said. "But I always hustle if I hit a pop fly because I know that there may be a chance that they may drop it."

Webber set a school record for wins this season, and the Trojans advanced to the sectional semifinal before losing to Shawnee.

Henderson led the Trojans with an 8-3 record on the mound. He finished the year with a 2.04 earned run average and showed complete command on the mound. He ended the year with 111 strikeouts while walking just 15 batters. He tied a career high with 18 strikeouts against Sandoval.

"A lot of those strikeouts are a result of how dominating he is and his ability to locate pitches," Root said. "Sometimes that can be a hindrance because your pitch count is going up.

"He got all of our big-game assignments the last couple years. His ability to locate multiple pitches where he wants them is just going to be beneficial to him," Root said.

Henderson was a force at the plate for the Trojans as well. He finished with an astronomical .516 batting average and drove in 36 runs for Webber. Henderson said he wanted to contribute wherever he could for the Trojans.
