Hines Sight: Basketball postseason starts soon

The month of February always means the beginning of the basketball playoffs in Jefferson County and across the rest of the state.

Regionals for 1 and 2A girls basketball schools have been scheduled. Later this week 3 and 4A regionals will be determined.

Woodlawn and Webber girls basketball teams will make a short trip east to Wayne City for the 1A regional. The host Lady Indians enter as the top seed.

Webber is the No. 4 seed and faces No. 5 Edwards County to open action at 7 p.m. Monday night. Woodlawn starts postseason action as the No. 3 seed against No. 2 Galatia at 8 p.m. Wednesday night. The championship is slated for 7 p.m. Thursday night.

Sesser-Valier/Waltonville is the top seed at the DuQuoin 2A regional. The Lady Red Devils face the winner of the Ziegler-Royalton/Christopher (4) and DuQuoin (5) game. The SVW semifinal game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday night.

Mt. Vernon's girls basketball team will know its postseason opening round opponent later this week. The seeds for the 3A Massac County regional will be released at 4 p.m. Thursday with the schedule being finalized at the same time the next day.

The Lady Rams regional consists of Carbondale, Centralia, Herrin, Marion and Massac County.

Boys postseason schedules will be released later this month.

Woodlawn, Webber and Waltonville will all play at the 1A Christopher regional. Seeds for the regional will be released Thursday, Feb. 13 with the schedule information coming the following day. Mt. Vernon competes in the 3A Herrin regional. Seeds for the regional will be released on Thursday, Feb. 20 with the final schedule being finalized the following day.

The Rams' regional consists of the host Tigers, Carbondale Marion and Massac County.
