Lady Rams cruise past Massac

MT. VERNON — Mt. Vernon girls tennis team continued its perfect season in duel matches Monday.

The Lady Rams swept past Massac County 9-0. Mt. Vernon won all nine matches in the minimum two sets, yielding just a handful of points to Massac.

I've very happy with how we played today,” Mt. Vernon coach Randy Knox said. “We had some hard matches over the weekend (O'Fallon Quad Tournament).

I didn't know if they were going to be tired or be really focused, but they came out focused.”

Jade Knox (6-0, 6-0), Catie Raney (6-0, 6-1), Shubhika Jain (6-1, 6-0), Amanda Scott (6-0, 6-1), Liz Hurst (6-1, 6-1) and Abigail Winkler (6-1, 6-0) were all winners in singles action.

The Lady Rams were without Gauri Kaushal due to illness, but showed solid depth with Winkler's ability to contribute to singles and doubles victories.

We wanted to get her more experience down there in singles,” Knox said. “She's been playing doubles mostly for us this year.”

The Lady Rams also swept the doubles action.

Knox and Raney teamed for a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1. Scott and Winkler won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Shreya Nair and Hurst were also victorious 6-3, 6-2.
