Rams silence conference foe

MARION — Mt. Vernon’s baseball team used early offense and strong pitching to beat Marion 6-0 Tuesday.

Brock Fulkerson pitched a complete game for the Rams on the mound. He finished with eight strikeouts and just one walk.

Mt. Vernon scored a pair of runs in the opening inning. Jake Pike added a three-run home run in the third to give the Rams a 5-0 edge. Pike finished with four RBI in the game.

Landon Thomas added a pair of hits. Collin Young and Sawyer Harrison had a hit each. Harrison also drew a walk, was hit by a pitch and stole a base.

Mt. Vernon is 9-4 this season and improved to 2-0 in the South Seven Conference.

Lady Rams fall to Marion

Mt. Vernon’s softball team rallied against Marion but lost 9-6 Tuesday.

Marion built an early lead before the Lady Rams scored all six runs in the fifth and sixth innings to close the gap.

Malorie Garner had two hits and an RBI for the Lady Rams. Lauren Wilson added two hits and an RBI.

Paige Clinton had two hits. Summer Hobson and Kelby Kujawa finished with a hit and RBI.

Hannah Wright pitched six innings for Mt. Vernon. She finished with two strikeouts and allowed four earned runs.

Mt. Vernon committed six errors in the game.

Mt. Vernon is 3-3 this season and travels to Carbondale on Thursday.
