Trojans blank Christ Our Rock

Webber’s baseball team shut down Centralia’s Christ Our Rock 2-0 Monday.

Ty Henderson was the winning pitcher and improved to 5-1 on the mound. He threw a complete game and fanned 16 batters.

Lane Moser had two hits and an RBI. Alex Lynn and Koaltin Dye added two hits each. Henderson finished with a hit and RBI.

Webber is 11-4 this season and travels to Waltonville today.

Lady Cards down Hamilton County

Woodlawn’s softball team beat Hamilton County 11-4 Monday.

Paige Tufts was the winning pitcher. She threw five innings and finished with four strikeouts.

Ryann French led the offense with four hits and three RBI. Payton Tufts added two hits and two RBI. Cassandra Lueking had two hits and an RBI. Paige Tufts added a hit and an RBI.

Woodlawn is 5-5 this season and travels to Odin today.

WSV softball edges ZRC

The Waltonville/Sesser-Valier softball team topped Zeigler-Royalton/Christopher 5-4 Monday.

WSV finished with nine hits. Jerrica Haley and Kourtney King finished with two hits each.

Maegan Eskew was the winning pitcher. She had seven strikeouts.

Mascoutah defeats Rams in tennis

Mt. Vernon’s boys tennis team traveled to Mascoutah and lost 6-3 Monday.

Jared Hatton and Cody Wilson were winners in singles for the Rams. Nathan Arnold and Aiden Ezell paired for a Mt. Vernon win in doubles.

The Rams go to Salem on Wednesday.

    Root, who guided the Trojans to the 1A state finals in Peoria this spring, was named the Southern Illinois Baseball Coaches Association 1A Coach of the Year.

     Jake Odorizzi allowed two runs over 5 2-3 innings and Yunel Escobar highlighted a five-run fifth inning with a two-run double to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to a 7-2 victory over the StLouis Cardinals on Tuesday night.
